On the early morning of January 30, 2018, two automobiles crashed on the northeast side of Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Metro Police Department believe that the crash happened on the Shadeland Avenue ramp to I-465 southbound on the northeast side of Indianapolis. This led to the closure of the ramp, and because access to Shadeland was blocked at Fall Creek, this means drivers trying to get to 465 would have to use 56th Street. The IMPD officers that were dispatched to Shadeland Avenue confirmed that one of the cars involved in the collision, a silver sedan, had been driving northbound in the southbound lanes. The second vehicle involved in the collision, a box truck, had been traveling southbound in the same lane and had tried to avoid the oncoming car but was unsuccessful and the two vehicles collided. The Driver and passenger of the silver sedan were pounced dead, and the investigating officers do not believe that alcohol was a factor in causing the collision. The driver of the box truck was taken to the hospital for a blood draw, which is standard in these kinds of cases and has been in cooperation with the IMPD. The area where the accident occurred that morning reopened around 8 A.M. for regular traffic.
