A man from Pendleton was arrested on January 15, 2021, after fleeing police with his 3-month-old son in the vehicle and causing a four-vehicle collision on the south side of Muncie. The man was charged with neglect of a dependent, strangulation, domestic battery, resisting law enforcement in a vehicle and theft. On January 15, 2021, police were called to Sixth Street and Hoyt Avenue and were informed by a woman that her boyfriend had choked her and then knocked her unconscious, after which he took a baby and fled in a Honda Civic and began to circle the area until the police arrived. The driver then led the police on a chase that ended in a four-vehicle collision on Madison Street and Memorial Drive. The suspect and one other driver were taken to a hospital, and the 3-month-old was examined but did not have any injuries.
Erratic drivers are not a seasonal occurrence, they are year-round and can be on the road at any time. These drivers put everyone around them on the road in danger, even more so if they are fleeing from the police.
