Indiana Sees an Increase in Traffic Deaths

Blog

In the State of Indiana during 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic did not keep all of the drivers off of the road, consequently causing an increase in traffic fatalities.  Recently, the Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety held a virtual conference where they outlined the steps that need to be taken to make the roads in Indiana safer.  They point to how many people took to the road in 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic and that this led to an increase in reckless driving.  The Indiana State Police want to crack down on this driving behavior, believing that they can do more now that they have a law that prohibits people from holding their cell phones while driving.  The Indiana State Police believe that if they can raise awareness of this, distracted driving will decrease.  While Indiana has laws that the Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety rank as good for handling distracted driving, the state does not have good laws for handling drunk or impaired driving, which makes up a large partition of the crash statistics across the state.

As the winter season continues, drivers will have to remain cautious about the road conditions as the weather worsens.  Unfortunately, those on the road will also have to worry about others that are driving while distracted or under the influence and in bad weather.  If you or someone you know has been injured or killed in a car accident by someone driving in a negligent manner, please contact the experienced legal team at Schiller Law Offices at 888-578-3100 or at IndyInjured.com to learn more about your potential right to compensation.
