On March 21, 2014, an emergency medical team was dispatched to a car accident on I-65 southbound near the Keystone Avenue exit. Upon arrival, an IMPD cruiser was seen with severe front end damage, which had veered into the highway median at a high rate of speed. The police officer was trapped inside and firefighters had to cut him out of the wreckage. The injured officer was transported into an ambulance and taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital. It appears that the police cruiser was the only vehicle involved and the cause of the crash is still being investigated.
