Hit-and-Run Results in the Death of a Man in A Wheelchair

Blog

On January 10, 2020, a crash involving a man in a motorized wheelchair occurred at East 30th Street and Bolton Avenue in Indianapolis.  The deceased was struck by a car and was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no witnesses at the scene and no record of any driver calling police to report the crash.  Police discovered multiple car parts in the street which were used to identify the suspected hit and run driver’s vehicle as a Chevrolet Silverado.  The investigators determined that the deceased was hit from behind and propelled into the eastbound lanes, where he was struck again by a Chrysler Sebring.  The driver of that vehicle turned himself into the police, stating that he was in the nearest lane to the median when he struck something but could not make it out as it was dark and rainy that evening.  The driver got out of his vehicle a bit later to check the damage but did not call the police or check back at the scene of the crash.  He later saw on social media that a man in a wheelchair had been involved in a hit-and-run in the area of his crash.  The driver told the police where to find the truck that struck the deceased, with the officers later matching the parts found at the site of the collision to the truck and arresting the driver.
