Police were led on a high speed chase last Thursday morning, May 8th, 2014. WTHR journalist Jeremy Brilliant reported that the instigator of the police chase was a young man who stole a Ford Escape in Illinois. After eluding a traffic stop for speeding, the gentleman sped down Interstate 70 at speeds in excess of 120 mph and exited onto West Street into downtown Indianapolis. At the intersection of Maryland and Meridian streets the man crashed into a Ford Taurus which spun onto the sidewalk and further struck a woman riding her bicycle. The suspect of the stolen vehicle fled the scene after colliding mid-intersection with the Ford Taurus. Police soon caught up to the suspect on foot and arrested the man. The driver of the other vehicle was injured and treated at the scene. The woman on her bike was pinned under the vehicle and after being extricated, treated for injuries to her legs at IU Health-Methodist Hospital.
