This time last year, Paramedics Timothy McCormick and Cody Medley were working when they were hit on their side by another vehicle at 4:00 am. The two paramedics had to be extracted from the vehicle and taken to the hospital where they were under critical care. McCormick died shortly after the crash while Medley passed away the next day while on life support. Both paramedics suffered from massive brain injuries.

According to WTHR 13, the paramedics were traveling through the intersection of St. Clair and Senate Ave following the traffic signals, when another vehicle heading down Senate hit them on their side causing the vehicle to flip. There were no passengers in the ambulance at the time of the car accident. The driver of the other vehicle was not seriously injured and though there is no official cause, an officer stated he detected alcohol on the driver’s breath.

McCormick and Medley are the first paramedics to die on the job in Marion County, and the other emergency response crew members had great difficulty dealing with the loss.  Please keep Timothy McCormick and Cody Medley as well as the entire emergency crew in your thoughts again this time of year as we pass the one year anniversary of their deaths.
