Blog

A man from Shelby County, Indiana, died on Sunday, May 6, 2018, in a crash in southwest Indiana involving a semi-truck. On that day, police had received multiple 911 calls about a motor vehicle collision near mile-marker 32.5 on westbound I-64. The 911 dispatchers had received two calls about a white Ford pickup truck that had been stopped on the interstate, and after the second call, dispatchers had received a call about a motor vehicle collision involving the pickup. The Indiana State Police’s preliminary investigation found the driver of the truck was parked on the emergency shoulder, and that the truck had pulled in front of a 2017 Freightliner semi-truck. The semi-truck hit the pick-up truck in the back, which sent it into a guardrail before it came to rest in the passing lane. The driver of the pickup was ejected on impact and died at the scene of the collision. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured. The collision closed the interstate for more than four hours according to police, that the incident remains under investigation.

Driving on a fast-moving and tightly packed highway can be dangerous any time of the day and in any weather. Trying to change lanes can be very difficult and reacting to someone stopping or pulling out in front of you can test your reaction speed.
